Should we bother?

I only now realize the stupidity of posting on April 1st again, but unlike last year, this is for real. I wouldn't be so crass as to post April fool's day jokes two years in a row (unlike some sites that are working on their 10th straight year).

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to tell you that as of two weeks ago, this site was toast (see next news story that I never posted until now).  I was all set to pull the plug, seeing as how Fugazi are basically done and no one really contributes to this site any more, and my account was up for renewal.  So I e-mailed my co-conspirator Martin and told him my plans, and he seemed to have different ideas. So, thanks to him, we're at least investigating the possibility of keeping the page going.

Every year, the hosting plan that this page is on costs in the neighbourhood of 100 dollars. I do use quite a bit of that webspace and hosting account for other things as well, but this site probably makes up 40-50% of the traffic. I'm guessing that the worldoffugazi.org site costs me in the neighbourhood of $40-50 a year for hosting and domain.  Originally I didn't care because people were still interested and I wanted to learn how to make websites with a CMS.

Now, however, it is becoming a cost that I'd like to shed or share.  Which brings me to the Paypal 'donate now' button on the front page of the site.  We're hoping that people who still find value in this site might want to step up with a 5 or 10 dollar donation to keep the site alive indefinitely.  This isn't a threat or an ultimatuum or sob story or anything.  I guess we're just wondering how much interest/support is out there to keep the page going.  If there is zero interest, then this page will likely follow in the footsteps of its namesake and go on indefinite hiatus.  Either way, this will be the last we mention this idea.  The link is there if you want to donate.

In all honestly, I also just wanted to post a news story to bump down that stupid 'Cheese have ink a baby' headline that I (for some reason) wrote.

Cheers.
