Something Scary

Please give us some good suggestions!

Something Scary

Postby yokono » Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:08 am

I am always on the lookout for something scary but good. Good cheesy is okay, bad cheesy is, well, bad.

So I'll toss out some good ones I've seen lately. And not so lately:

-Eden Lake. Yikes. This one disturbed me for days and days.

-El Orfanato. Or the orphanage. It's Spanish.

That's about it. If anyone has any suggestions I'm really looking for something good now that winter is rolling in.

El Orfanto creeped me out. Then I cried at the end.

Have you watched any of the J-Horrors? Stuff like the Ju-on (The Grudge), Dark Water or The Eye. They always creep me out because they aren't bombastic like Hollywood horrors. Just this feeling of something really bad that is about to happen, often in mundane surroundings. Creeping dread.

Personally, I'm a sucker for Zombie flicks and books.

Evil Dead fans should check out drag me to hell, also from sam raimi. Oldskool horror and funny too :D

talking bout zombie flicks (big fan) anybody seen zombieland yet? It seems like a cool movie. This weekend i'm gonna check out 'carriers'.

Oh, and REC is friggn scary! Go see that one, it's the original spanish version (quarantine is the US version, they didn't even mention it's a remake of REC, bastards).

See, Ralph, I didn't "get" Drag Me to Hell. I found it on a bunch of best horror movies of the year lists, but I must not be sophisticated enough. I thought it was dumb.

What was I missing?

I don't know if I've ever posted anything about this one, but Time Crimes was really good. Not sure that it's really 'Scary' but it's awesome. I also really liked Moon.

And I didn't even finish Dead Snow--potential spoiler--I got to the point where my favourites were dead so I stopped watching. But what I did watch was worth it. If that makes sense.

How's that for a movie review? Sheesh. Someone needs to lay off the red wine.

I know someone who has lots of opinions whilst consuming red wine. She gave your review the thumbs up.
